At these days and ages, technology continues to advance and develop with the goal of making people’s life easier. Artificial Intelligence is one of the hottest topics to talk about nowadays.
What is Artificial Intelligence?
Artificial Intelligence refers to a machine that can simulate human intelligence. In a simple term, the term AI or learning machine is designed to work just like a human brain and can copy human actions as well. This machine learning is a program by a human with the goals of problem-solving, learning, reasoning (Frankendfield, 2020). According to Norvig and Russell (2009), there are four approaches that defined Artificial Intelligence:
- Thinking humanly
- Thinking rationally
- Acting humanly
- Acting rationally
Categorization of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is categorized into two types:
- Weak Artificial Intelligence: the system is a program to focus on performing one particular task only. The example of weak AI would be Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa. The only job that these two Artificial Intelligence is to answer questions and do a simple task. Siri is a useful innovation by Apple Company. Apple’s Siri can help the iPhone user to do useful tasks without having to pick up and click their phone’s screen. The user can simply talk to their phone and Siri have the answer to all of the questions. Siri can help reminds, set an alarm clock, call to a particular person and even navigate directions.
- Strong Artificial Intelligence: the system is designed to carry out tasks just like a human. Strong AI can solve more complex problems and perform more than one particular task. This innovation is really useful and can even take over human jobs. For example, a self-driving car. The AI car is designed to drive on its own and program to have the lowest accident as possible.
Can Artificial Intelligence replace humans?
Although AI is an advanced technology that can help solve human daily problems in many ways, it can also cause harm to humans intentionally and unintentionally. AI is so useful that it can contribute to different industries such as the healthcare industry (e.g., nurse), banking industry (e.g., accountant), security industry (e.g., security guard), and many more (John, 2019). Some expert predicts that AI can take over a human’s jobs in the near future. AI can solve complex problems, mimic human expression or action, and act like a human in so many ways. AI can eventually replace human tasks and steal some human job’s in the future. It will cause an increase in the unemployment rate because the company owner might consider replacing the human with AI machines. Due to the reason that the machine will make fewer mistakes, high in productivity and never lose motivation. For example, the self-driving car would decrease the number of taxi drivers.
